New York City attorney Joseph Napoli practices with the Napoli Shkolnik law firm, where he has worked for years in medical malpractice and product liability law. In conjunction with his career as an attorney, Joseph Napoli has maintained membership with the American Bar Association (ABA), which recently recognized the Sustainable Economies Law Center (SELC) with the 2017 Louis M. Brown Award for Legal Access.

Based in Oakland, California, SELC is an organization that has committed itself to the mission of revitalizing local areas through grassroots efforts. The organization works to remove barriers that prevent access to legal tools for communities looking toward sustainability in their local industries.

Louis M. Brown, the ABA award’s namesake, worked for more than six decades to help provide greater legal access to people of middle and low incomes. The award is given to organizations who have committed themselves to those same principles. SELC was chosen from a group of 36 nominees from various areas, including the nonprofit sector, law schools, and other bar associations.

The ABA’s Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services presented SELC with the award during its Midyear Meeting.
